This is the forward to my new book, Magick: Back to the Basics, Living with the Elements

This book started as a series of lectures for my students. That is where I laid the seeds, and that is where they started to grow, and as it began to produce fruit, I began to think think back on what made me start magick in the first place. It was a slow evolution but I can trace it back to a central moment.
 I was in 8th grade. This was a turbulent time in my life, we had just moved back to Missouri from Texas and my mother was in the middle of a nervous breakdown. The church we had attended down south had left our loving family in ruins. My mother scared of her own shadow, afraid of the things she now felt haunted her and the damnation she had let into her life. My father had begun to drink again, and although not confirmed we were all sure he was cheating on her at this time, and I so disgusted with the church our family had been a part of and the damage that "God" had allow to befall us. I had lost my faith in everything. Lost my faith in a mother and father who could protect our family. Lost my faith in god and religion, Lost my faith in society, and lost my faith in my self.
This period of time after moving back home I was having trouble making friends, since I came back mid semester. Every day was  a dull dream like existence. I was just living because I knew no other way to exist. I know this sounds overly bleak, but this is one of the darkness times of my life. I have had a couple and this one set the precedent for magick to help me heal in each of my times of need.
During this time, I would spend my days staring out of windows. I didn't even day dream. I just stared.
With maybe 2 months left till summer vacation started our bus driver quit, so our new driver began taking a new route. I noticed in this particular empty field a very old woman alone in the field. She was always facing the east and seemed to be in a state of deep meditation. The other kids started making fun of her, but i was intrigued. After about a week of watching her, I decided get off at a different stop than I normally would. It left me only a few blocks from the field, and I was hoping I could find the woman.
I approached the field and after about an hour I saw her sitting outside on a patio of an old farmhouse. I slowly approached her. She smiled at me and had a very warm smile. She asked me if I was lost and I told her no. I was nervous to ask her what she was doing outside everyday. I thought i was crazy to be that curious, my parents raised me not to be that noisy into other peoples business and the raised me never to talk to strangers. After a brief struggle to collect my words, I told her why I sought her out. She closed her eyes for a moment and I thought maybe she was going to ask me to leave, but instead she explained what she was doing, and then offered me tea.
For the remaining weeks of the school year, I would go to her house, drink tea and she would talk and I would listen, and as I listened, I began to heal. She explained Philosophy's to me, explained what I would later come to understand as the Qabalah to me, she explained and taught me the 4 adoration's to the sun to me. That was the
what she was doing every morning when I saw her. She taught me the LBRP and several other things, but the most important thing she taught me to believe in my self and taught me the only divinity that matters is the spark inside of me that no one can taint or take away. No matter what other divinity I should come to believe in no matter what I learn or do from that moment on. She taught me to remember I am divine.
In a way I was lucky of the state my home was in no one seemed to notice when I came home 3 hours late each day, but alas the last time of school came and It would be the last day I would be able to see her regularly. She during tea had some special for me. On the table was a copy of a book. I have many copies of now. She told me It was something special, something that would stay with me for the rest of my life. It was the Book Of The Law.

I must of read it everyday the first week she gave it too me. If she would of gave it too any other child my age, I doubt they could have read it or understood it, but I started reading at a very early age and started reading Stephen King in first grade and HP Lovecraft in 2nd. I adored the book, but as life is Nothing lasts forever my parents found it in my hiding spot and through it out and gave me a nasty punishing. I saw her a few more time before the end, but she didn't live much longer after that.

My first teachers name was Amelia, nothing special or exotic, just Amelia. She was 89 years old and I adored her, and continue to adore her to this day. She taught me about my self, and about the world.

Wonders of Water

It is ten minuets after midnight, I stand at the edge of the water dimly illuminated by the dozen candles I have lit and placed around the edge. I see my reflection briefly in the darkend water, before I break the surface and face what awaits.

This is mearly the newest phase of an ongoing water working I have been performing all summer. Water is the elemental force I am least profiecent with and in an effort to strengthen it, I have been using it every free moment of every day.

First after lighting the candles and entering the domain of the element. I spend an undetermined amount of time, performing the relaxation ritual  and instant relaxation ritual, followed by a period of time in meditation. Then I begin the LBRP, After that I begin performing an Evocation to Gabriel, and followed by moments of intense contemplation on the nature and qualities of water.


Personally I believe the first step to becoming a better magician is to teach someone else. It forces you to touch back up on the basics and increase your levels of energy and knowledge.

Enochian Calls pt 2

Using the NAEQ ALW Cypher

I decided to take the call I created earlier and apply the ALW Cypher with it and I thought it was fairly interesting.

 Using the system I outlined in an earlier post, I came up with the following statement.

" Holy Archangels beheld Amon-Ra, Lovely (Pride/Terror) faded.

Step Harlot absolved, dark runes atoned. 

Rising Theban ask wisely Maat holy wisdom.

Seven golden (Flames/Flowers)  obtain praise."

Of course I could of come out with many different statements, and I had to spend many hours pondering over the correct set of words. You know how gemetria is.

Enochian Calls

John Dee was encouraged to create his own enochian call. Whether or not you were suppose to substitute the first "silent" call with this or not is up to great debate. Last night I attended an enochian class to touch up on my understanding of enochian and this was one of the exercises we needed to perform.
We had to do this in the class so mine maybe flawed. I will go through and Break it down and improve upon it more in the following weeks.


Nado tal undrux-gedfam medvan urgon-gedgisg.
Paurfam-fam gisgna-gongisg talunged gonveh-undrux
undrux-gal gedvon-gongal tal gisgna-donmed

Roughly translated it means
"Hear me Angels of Light
Bless this Magician
And guide him through this night."

Introduction

Hello My name is Rev. Ryan Smithee or Aralim Ansuz in some circles. I have been Practicing magick since I was in high school and have been studying it for much longer than that. I am a writer of Fiction and a musician. My Band is called Mirrorscape, give them a listen if you get the chance. I also have other projects I am working on. Mainly a series of horror photo shoots and a film. Some of my magickal Projects include using the NAEQ AWL Cypher to study the Original Dr. John Dee Journals. I am currently studying to become an archaeologist and I am a licenced massage therapist and herbalist. My magickal interests are very diverse and are spread across both the Right Hand Path and Left Hand Path. I am a member of thr Rune Guild, The Fellowship of Isis, and the OUF. I am. Former member of the AOD. I would like to take a moment and appologize to my friend Wendy, originally this post stated I was the Founder of said order, I was wishing to convey I was a founding member not the head of the group. Once again my most sincere apologies. While I am updating this post I would like to add they are a wonderful ritual group in the st.louis area.

New Aeon English Qaballa

  First of All let me apologize for any information I leave out, and the cluttered appearance my thoughts may be in. It has been a long night and a very long day. I finally pulled all my journals and notes out of storage and just got little Master William ( my 7 month old son) to sleep.
   This is the Very first Magick Essay I have written for the enjoyment of others, so please any feedback is good feedback.
 
Remember this is just a basic Primer of the system, and non of this is my own personal work. I will be posting a blog in the next few weeks detailing my own personal experiments with the system. This Primer is most likely just going to be one of several. There is quite a bit of information on this, for just one quick essay.
 
  Lets start things off right and go with a little background information for the layman into what cause this system to be discovered/created, depending on how you look at it, in 1904
Aleister Crowley was contacted by a being named Aiwass and during the several days of communication Crowley was dictated The Book of the Law or Liber AL vel Legis.
 He was commanded
  " Thou Shalt obtain the order & Value of the English Alphabet; Thou shalt find new symbols to attribute them unto" (Liber AL vel Legis II:55)

Crowley did make an honest attempt at doing just that in Liber Trigrammaton, but he was never fully satisfied with the results.
"There cometh one to follow thee: he shall expound it." (Liber AL Vel Legis II: 76)

So the mystery of an English Valued system stayed in open season, there have been many attempts at an ordering and valuing of the language over the years. Most common have been simply translating into Hebrew or Latin or Greek and using that system, or simply give A the value of 1, B the Value of 2 and so on and so forth. Let me say this, there is nothing wrong with any of the approaches, the nature of being a magician means, trial and error, experimenting but when it comes down to it, what is right for you is right. Simple as that. Also let me say this, i am not saying that this system is any better than other systems in existence, i am just saying it is right for me, and I believe everyone should if they will it. Give this system a chance and perform  some experiments with it. Now back to my story.
In the 70's a few individuals began experimenting with the riddle and stumbled onto some interesting coincidence. The main clue they stumbled upon came from Frater Achad in his Liber 31

" Then I noticed another very important thing. I was wondering why A and L should be chosen, or rather why L the 12th letter of the Hebrew alphabet should follow A, the first."


Now I am not saying this is the key to the cypher but let me start handing out some of the evidence Jim Lees discovered that convinced him.
The number 11 is an important number in the book of the law.
There is 11 letters between A and L. So Jim began counting 11 and produced this Key

A=1  L=2  W=3  H=4  S=5  D=6  O=7  Z=8  K=9  V=10 G=11 R=12 C=13
N=14 Y=15 J=16 U=17 F=18 Q=19 B=20 M=21 X=22 I=23 T=24 E=25 P=26

Here are some interesting facts

• First letter A, Second B, Third is W nice anagram for law but nothing that is all that amazing.
•   The second fact is that the grid in the hand written manuscript for Liber AL  Chapter III verse 47 contains a line that reads. "Then This Line drawn is a key

  Now take the same grid and Vertical from the first column Fill it in A,B,C,D and so on till J then move on to the next column and start again with K, L, so on. Repeat till Z and Start the alphabet over again. It should look something like this, forgive me my scanner is acting up so i have to use a substitute.

In the first diagram you see a circle and a cross a traditional symbol for the Rosy Cross. Using this system Rosy Cross = 81
The manuscript continues " Then this circle squared in it's failure, is a key also."

Note the circle is drawn where the letter K would be positioned using this system. K=9. 9 squared is 81 and 81= rosy cross.

Note the circle infringes upon the square where U would be located.
K=9 ans U= 17
By adding them all together we end up with 26 which is the number of letters in the English alphabet.

• Researcher Jake Stratton-Kent, discovered if you convert all the letters in Liber AL II: 76 into the English Qabalah equivalents, you received a value of 351. If you add all the letters of the English alphabet together you also received the vale 351
• English Alphabet= 187 two words that also =187 are " Magnificent" " Perfection"
• Read Chapter I verse 24  Then Check the numeric value of Nuit. it comes out too 78
• Multiply 7 and 8 that equals 56 which is the same thing as saying six and fifty

Ok rather than saying Love is the law, love under will. we say 93 93/93. When converted in NAEQ Love is the law, love under will, it equals 279. 93*3= 279

These are just a few reasons while a lot of researchers in Thelema are starting to lean towards using this system.
